Thoughts From Fr. John
Traditionally, these seven words (which are more like “sayings” that contain more than a single word) are known as words of Forgiveness, Salvation, Relationship, Abandonment, Distress, Triumph, and Reunion.
1."Father, forgive them, they know not what they do.” (Lk 23:34).
2. “Amen, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise” (Lk 23:42).
3. “Woman, behold, your son” ... “Behold, your mother” (Jn 19:26-27).
4. “Eli, Eli lema sa1bachthani,” “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” (Hebrew “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani,” (Mt 27:46, Jesus quoted from Ps 22:1a in Hebrew; in Mk 15:34, quoted Ps 22:1,2a in Aramaic).
5. “I thirst” (Jn 19:28).
6. “It is fulfilled” (Jn 19:30).
7. “Father, into your hands I commend my Spirit” (Lk 23:46, quoted from Ps 31:5,6).

PALM SUNDAY OF THE PASSION OF THE LORD
Entrance: John 12: 1, 12-13—Six days before the Passover, when the Lord came into the city of Jerusalem, the children ran to meet him; in their hands they carried palm branches and with a loud voice cried out: Hosanna in the highest! Blessed are you, who have come in your abundant mercy! O gates, lift high your heads; grow higher, ancient doors. Let him enter, the king of glory! Who is this king of glory? PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL
1) Let us pray for the Church:
Father of Jesus, help each member of your Church assume the attitude of Christ, who emptied Himself in humble love.
We pray to the Lord . . .
2) Let us pray for world peace:
God of every nation, impress upon our leaders the urgent need for peace. May the violence Jesus endured turn us all away from injustice. We pray to the Lord . . .
3) Let us pray for those who suffer:
Father of the poor, do not turn your back on prisoners and the afflicted. Help us to be compassionate to all. Keep the people in all countries currently in conflict in your loving protection.

4) Let us pray for those who are ill:
May our brothers and sisters who bear the cross of Jesus in their bodies also know your saving help, especially --

Rounding third, headed for home
We strive to get a hit every time we step up to the plate (yes, this is a baseball metaphor). We start every day with good intentions, just like we started this Lenten season. It’s a long season, though. Not every day is a win. It’s not about winning every day, it’s about striving to achieve more. Knowing that a great record in baseball is a hit 3 out of 10 times, we step up to conquer the intimidation of a fast-moving hardball, and our hit lands us safely on base.
But being safe on base isn’t the goal, Brothers, now is it?
One more week, my Brothers (and sisters in Christ). One more week to round the bases and head for home, for the Glory of God’s loving embrace, to celebrate Easter with him. Letting up the pace or slowing down could be disastrous. Feeling “safe” has no place here, yet. There is no glory in being partway through Lent.
Strengthen your Lenten commitment (there’s still time for reconciliation), listen for the whisper of the Lord’s guidance in your heart (there’s still time to join the Knights as a Lenten commitment), and strive mightily to make it home safely.
Thank you to all who committed to the MI Tootsie Roll Drive this weekend. Whether you donated your time or money, you’ve helped make a difference in the lives of those more challenged than we are.

John Mark Comber in the book “The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry” came up with a list of “ten symptoms of hurry sickness.”
I’ll share a few of them that I’m sure will resonate (btw, you should read that book):
- Irritability. Personally, when I find myself complaining under my breath like a crazy person about small inconveniences, that’s my cue that I’m maybe doing too much.
- Hypersensitivity. My wife or the kids say something the wrong way and I get extra hurt or blow up.
- Restlessness. When it’s time to slow down, your brain can’t get out of 5th gear.
- Escapist behaviors like over-drinking or over-watching media. Cause you need quick fixes, even if they’re not healthy.
- Slippage of spiritual disciplines. And here, my friends, is where we all begin the slippery slide towards scandal.
- Bottom line: Our times of worst sin and worst busyness both create a very similar worst version of ourselves…
During Lent we often cut things out of our lives. Instead of just cutting out things like chocolate and alcohol (which are also good sacrifices for Lent), what can you cut out to slow down?

- Please take home a copy of today's bulletin for the complete schedule of the services of Holy Week and Easter. Our Easter Vigil Mass will begin at 7:30 on Saturday evening at which we are blessed to welcome into the Church 9 through Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation.
- Mass for Holy Thursday will be held at St. Daniel’s in Clarkston, Mass begins at 7 p.m.
- On Good Friday we have Stations of the Cross at noon, followed by the Liturgy of Good Friday at 1 p.m. We will pray the Divine Mercy chaplet the following weekend on Divine Mercy Sunday.
- The parish offices will be closed Holy Thursday, Good Friday and the week after Easter.
- On Holy Saturday at 11 a.m. Fr. John will bless your Easter food baskets.
- Our Knights of Columbus are conducting their Tootsie Roll Drive this weekend in support of the mentally impaired. Be kind to the Knights as they greet you after Mass.
