Prayer of Thanks
Lord Jesus, you have called Pope Francis to yourself. Thank you for the gift of his papacy. When he was with us, he tirelessly showed the Church your constant mercy toward sinners. Grant him now your mercy and let him rest eternally with you in your Kingdom. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Prayer for a Deceased Pope
God, Who, in Thine ineffable providence, didst will that Thy servant Francis ... should be numbered among the high priests; grant, we beseech Thee, that he, who on earth held the place of Thine only-begotten Son, may be joined forevermore to the fellowship of Thy

The Church Says Farewell to Francis
This week, Pope Francis completed his earthly pilgrimage and went home to the Lord, prompting the Church and the world to mourn the loss of the Holy Father and reflect on his 12-year pontificate.
In a statement issued this week, Michigan Catholic Conference President and CEO Paul A. Long offered his prayers for the soul of Pope Francis and expressed gratitude for the Holy Father’s “tireless voice of concern and advocacy for marginalized people across the world and in our communities.”
Long also referenced the late Pope’s call to reject “a throwaway culture that devalues and discards any perceived imperfection of human life” and noted that Francis used his platform to amplify “Church teaching for elected leaders and those in positions of power to protect the elderly, the unborn, and the many migrants and refugees searching for a life free from violence and fear.”
Each of the Catholic bishops who lead Michigan’s seven dioceses offered their condolences and reflections in their own statements this week, and several offered Masses for the repose of the soul of Pope Francis. The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has a dedicated webpage of tributes to the Pope and other resources honoring the 265th Successor of St. Peter.
Pope Francis’ funeral Mass is set for 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Peter’s Square at the Vatican. From there, the Church’s tradition of nine days of mourning will commence, known as novendiales, which will run through May 4.
The death of the Holy Father, which took place early Easter Monday, April 21, begins a period of transition for the Church as the College of Cardinals will soon consider a new successor to the Chair of St. Peter. Vivat Jesus” was introduced around 1980 during the revision of the Knights of Columbus Ceremonials of the Order as a method of greeting another Knight. It was originally attributed to Bishop Charles P. Greco’s as his motto. It helps remind us that the activities and programs carried on by the Knights of Columbus must be inspired and nourished by the Catholic faith. Any practicing Catholic is welcome to share in the joy and inspiration that phrase incites. So if a Knight offers the phrase “Vivat Jesus!” to you, feel free to reply “SEMPER,” )meaning ‘always’), or just smile and say “Amen!”
This Quiet Brother is present and active every time you look around lately. A member since 2011, he’s flung pumpkins, worked the Stations of the Cross, helped at the Pancake Breakfast, hoisted firewood and most recently was a major part of the 2025 KofC Scholarship Committee. He is a powerhouse of our active Council and is worthy of our April 2025 award for Knight of the Month.
The Szasz Family shows good Catholic values and deserves our award for Family of the Month for March 2025. Melissa helps run the Children’s liturgy with Troy’s help. Carl is a lector and Mass steward. Carl Jr, Julius, and Troy are all altar servers. They host the K of C Firewood donation program on their property. Carl was also an important member of the 2025 K of C Scholarship Committee. Please congratulate this deserving family when you see them next.
